Information, Update

SpaceSlog Steam release date and major update.

Hello fellow SpaceSloggers.

Today we have some exciting news! Firstly, we would like to announce the Steam Early Access release date, which is set for April 3rd 2026. We also have a new update coming on Friday, which you can see the changes below.

To celebrate, from Friday for the following week the game will be 10% off on the Epic Games Store and we will be making the game available on Itch.io for anyone that wants to purchase a DRM-free version of the game. This will also be released on Friday.

Highlights

Optimisations

Every update we continue to work on optimisations and this update has been no different. As an example, we noticed some hiccups in certain situations whilst playing. It turned out some AI functions in some specific instances were taking 170ms on my relatively fast PC. After some changes I managed to get this down to less than 1ms. So some big improvements in this one.

New Lessons/tutorial

SpaceSlog is a complex game and many people have been struggling being unable to figure out how to progress or decipher what everything does. We have tried to rectify this by first updating all descriptions to be more, well descriptive. But to also add a new lessons system which will teach you how to do things as you press various menus, objects and buttons. This is in addition to the previously added hint alerts that appear at the bottom right of the screen.
We hope people will now find it much easier to play SpaceSlog.

Ranged combat

We have finally added ranged combat with a range of features (no pun intended). We have a cover system where pawns will lean out from behind objects to shoot and lean back in to reload. When in space you are less likely to hear the sounds of gunshots but would possibly feel vibrations instead, we have tried to mimic this by changing how gunshots sound when pawns are out in space, as opposed to on a ship, or later on a planet surface. Each gun has different sounds and characteristics and you will want to use whatever best suits the current situation. Its also worth noting, its probably not the best idea to shoot firearms inside a sealed cabin or around highly volatile materials.

Information

SpaceSlog has now been released on Epic!

SpaceSlog should now be live on the Epic Games Store. You can read my blog on why we have released on Epic here.

https://launcher.store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/spaceslog-9f9162

Please remember the game still has bugs and various missing features and is a long way off from a full game. Hence why this is mostly a stealth release. However, your support is greatly appreciated and will help to make the game better, much quicker.

It also allows us to open up our wiki and translations, which you are all welcome to contribute to. All of this will help when we come to release on Steam.

The wiki is still a blank canvas but I have started to fill in info on how to help with translations, you can find that page here.

https://produnogames.com/SpaceSlogWiki

I hope to push updates for the game every couple of months, with the first one being fixes and improvements. After I am happy with the current condition of the game, i will then start to add new features like:

  • The galaxy map
  • Planetary landing
  • Ship to ship combat
  • etc.

Though these will likely be tailored towards what you all want first.

If you want to see the current state of the game before purchasing, you can check out some of the latest videos over on our Discord. If you create your own videos, you are also welcome to post them there.

Epic does allow refunds. Though you have to have less than 2 hours in game and it should be within 14 days of purchase. So if you are unhappy with the current condition of the game, you can always refund and wait a little longer to purchase it.

Happy sloggin!

End of 2024 update.

Looking back

2024 has been a big year for SpaceSlog and for myself. I had been working on SpaceSlog in my spare time whilst working other jobs for almost 5 years. I made the decision in November to go full time which hopefully means throughout 2025 there will be much more updates, which unfortunately has been lacking. (Keep an eye out for the next one which will detail what’s been worked on since we released the demo)

We released our first demo on Steam back in September which I think received good feedback. It was this that prompted me to take the jump into going full time, so a big thanks to everyone that decided to play and give feedback, good and bad.

We had our first large streamers play the game, with Nookrium playing on Twitch and Orbital Potato playing on YouTube. You can check out Orbital Potato’s stream here

Looking ahead

We plan to release SpaceSlog into early access on Steam somewhere around Q4 in 2025. I don’t want to give a definitive date yet as many things can happen or change when being a solo developer, so I think for now its best to just give a best estimation.

We will be joining several Steam Festivals throughout the next year where we will again release a demo for everyone to play and try out the game. Several people have asked why we do not leave the demo up, the reason being is that the demo is currently just the full game, so it wouldn’t make much sense to continuously leave up for free the full thing we want to be selling. In the future we may decide to have some kind of timed demo instead.

The game is currently playable and we could technically release into early access today, but I want to ensure the game is as good as possible beforehand which will give us the best chance to succeed. I plan to continue to work on this game for several years and there is a huge amount of things I would like to add. To enable me to do that, we need to ensure we have plenty of wishlists and we are favourable to the Steam algorithm when we release.

Last but not least, I hope you all had a great Christmas and I hope you all have an equally great new year! I am excited every day to work on SpaceSlog and cannot wait to see what we can achieve with your help in 2025!
